What were you doing before you joined The Marcy Lab School as a Software Engineering Fellow?
Before joining The Marcy Lab School, I attended The Urban Assembly Charter School for Computer Science. During this time, I struggled a lot with coding but wanted to learn more. To improve my skills, I joined the All-Star Code summer internship, where I gained foundational knowledge and tools to build static HTML and CSS pages.
What made you want to apply for Marcy’s Software Engineering Fellowship?
After some self-study in programming, a friend recommended that I look into The Marcy Lab School. It seemed too good to be true, so I researched the program. It seemed like the perfect fit for my goals, so I decided to apply. The rest, as they say, is history.
What was most challenging for you as a Fellow?
The most challenging part of being a Fellow was managing the rigorous workload and constantly being challenged in my thinking abilities. However, this experience has fueled my desire to learn more as every new thing I learn builds on my foundational knowledge. Furthermore, working with my peers and incorporating feedback has helped me discover different approaches to thinking and problem-solving.
How have you most grown while at Marcy?
I have grown the most in my problem-solving abilities and communication skills while part of Marcy’s Fellowship. The challenging projects and collaborative environment have pushed me to think creatively and communicate effectively. Additionally, peer mentorship and feedback have helped me develop a stronger confidence in my abilities.
What are some goals and future dreams you have for yourself?
My dream and goals have always been to become a software engineer, to achieve financial freedom, and to better my life with my family.
